My final blog

After completing my final paper, advice that i would give future students is to do a lot of research and do it early. Use a disk or flash drive to put your stuff for the paper on just in case you have computer problems. Try not to stress yourself out because it really is not as difficult as you may think that it is. I have never really cared for writing, but I enjoyed this class a lot. I now have a better understanding of APA citation and feel comfortable with it. I still need to work on not waiting for the last minute to finish my paper, though. That can be very stressful! Also, I seemed to struggle with getting the minimun page requirement for some reason this term. But all in all, I feel that my final paper was good enough.

Finalizing my paper

I am usually ahead when it comes to writing papers, but since I had two separate computer issues this term I kind of fell behind. I am starting to relax a little more now that I have my paper almost finished, but I am still stressed a little. The thing that is driving me nuts is that my paper is not long enough yet. I know what I will be doing everyday until my paper gets finished.. lol.. Busy weekend ahead for me. I will be ready for that week break between switching classes, that is for sure!

Have a great week everyone!

Blog and Issues

With this being my first time blogging, I kind of liked it. I am not for sure if I will continue to blog after this class or not. I may some, but probably not all the time. Usually if I want to vent or talk, I post it on my Facebook wall or just call up a friend and have a chat :)

As with my writing process, I haven't had any issues really. I am just always afraid that I will not cite something right or not paraphrase right. I just got finished working some on my paper and I took some things out that I wasn't sure how to fix and added new things to it. I still have a ways to go before it is finished, but I am sure I will get there.

Peer review

I think having peer review is a good thing to do. It gives a broader audience to read your paper instead of just one person reading it. Therefore we get several different opinions and points of view. I have only done the peer review one other time and that was in Comp 1 a couple terms back. I really liked the reviews I got because I felt that they helped me make my final paper better. I also like reading other students' papers because by doing that I learn more about other things that interest me.

It is starting to storm here pretty bad, so I better get offline. Type at everyone next week! Have a great weekend :)

The past 6 weeks

Hello all,

The last six weeks has been full of stress for me. As you know, I have moved and had internet problems and then got them fixed. Well, Wednesday our internet quit working once again because some other company hooked up DSL on out line and messed up our current DSL. I am so confused on that one and do not know why they even hooked it up for in the first place. We have been on the phone every single day trying to get the problem fixed, but nothing so far. It would have to happen to me when I have two papers due in my classes. I live 30 miles away from town and it is taking a lot of gas and money to drive to my dads everyday to get on his computer. I have to rush to get my school work done so I beat the deadline because computer problems are not extenuating circumstances. I am just hoping that I get good grades on all my work because trying to do work and stressing is not a good combination.
Besides my computer dilemma, my cousin in Las Vegas had her first baby on the 25th of April, but the baby has fluid on her lungs and is in ICU. They think that she will be okay though. My father-in-law had to go to the hospital today because his diabetes got out of whack. They got it under control though. As you can see, it has not been a good six weeks for me. Hopefully things will turn around real soon and get better for me.

Things starting to get back to normal

Hello everyone!

We finally got DSL internet at our new house so now I can get caught back up. I have been using my dads computer for the past two weeks so I really have not gotten much done by way of researching and all. I did manage to keep my schoolwork current however :)

I found out today that my clinicals are getting close. I start my clinicals in November and cannot wait. I know that is still 7 months away, but seeing as how fast school has went so far it will be here before I know it. I can't believe that I have already been attending Kaplan for a little over 9 months. When I first started I did not think that I could handle all of the writing and the very little free time I get, but I have lasted and am very proud of myself. I have had to change a bunch of things in my life, but I have a very understanding family and they are supporting me 100%. So I would say that school has influenced me in a good way. I make sure that I take at least one day off a week from school so that I can spend that time with my family.

Plagiarism and references

Reading the chapter over plagiarism has gotten me to wonder how many times I may have plagiarized when I was in school years ago. I was never taught to list references when I was in school and if I was, I do not remember it. We was just given a topic and sent to the library to write. So when I started here at Kaplan it took me a while to get used to references and citing. I am still a little worried that I may mess up on listing the reference wrong or something like that. I do see the importance in citing our sources; to give credit to the person who wrote it. The thing I am still confused on is why different types of sources such as journals, books, etc. have to be cited differently on the reference page. You think that just citing them one way would be okay, but I guess not. I mean, I don't mind doing it I was just curious as to why they are different is all :)
